sick Parakeet with runny poop, what to do?
I have a female Parakeet, around 3 years old. She used to lay many eggs but it has been awhile. The problem is that her poop is very runny and is sticking to her feathers.
she wont come out to fly and she isnt eating much. She sits on her perch kind of fluffed up.
I looked at another web site and it said something about Coccidiosis. Still not sure. She has never been to a vet.
I was hoping that I could find meds at the pet store, but I decided that I would not waste anymore time and just take her to the vet. I’ll keep you posted, Thanks all for your advice.
Thank you all for your concern. I took her to the vet on the same day. He said that she was egg bound and could get the egg out in ten minutes. Sadly, the egg was underdeveloped and clung to her uterus. She died a few days later.
Her mate doesn’t seem depressed. Although I am thinking for him of getting him another friend so he wont be lonely.
I am heart broken. She was only 3 years old.
Sick parakeet foaming at mouth?
My parakeet has been looking sickly as of late. She’s started foaming at the mouth and it comes out from the corners of her beak. It ever looked like the color of dried blood once before. She also does this thing where she’ll bob her head and shake it violently from side to side, and whole seeds go flying everywhere.
She’s 3 years old. I’m taking her to the vet tomorrow morning. Does anyone have ANY idea what this could be? I’ve been looking online for hours and can’t find anything about it.
Don’t worry, I’m getting her in as soon as possible. But the only vet we can find that will take in birds doesn’t specialize in them, so I was really hoping someone could tell me a few possibilities to bring up to the vet.
By the way, only mammals can get rabies, so that’s out.
very sick parakeet, please help, loss of equilibrium, lethargic, quiet?
my parakeet is usually very lively. I found him about 9 months ago so i have no idea how old he is, but today he was acting EXTREMELY strange for about 40 minutes, maybe. he was having trouble walking, falling over and stumbling. his sense of balance seemed completely off. he wouldnt perch on my fingers, and he just stood there all puffed up and let me pet him on him stomach, which is very unusual (usually he runs around or plays stairs or something). he also tried to fly around and kept bumping into walls, falling into crevaces, when hed land his wings would stay outstreched. he was acting really lethargic, he wasnt chirping at all and the feathers on his forehead have become tinted green.
hes been falling off his perches for a while, maybe a month or two, but he has always gotten right back up
i havent noticed any difference in his stool.
I dont have money or the resources to even find a vet, any suggestions? i am very worried about him and i dont know anything about parakeet health:
did this make my parakeet sick?
last night somewhere close by, a skunk sprayed and my window was open and my room stunk terribly and i noticed that my parakeets were quiet, they usually arent, i took them out of my room so they wouldnt get sick but today i noticed that the female was all puffed up all day and she was squinting her eyes too, and now i noticed that the other one is starting to do the same thing, so did the skunk smell make them sick? and whatever is wrong with them, is it contagious? cause i dont want my breeding pair to get sick
they didnt get directly sprayed, the skunk sprayed somewhere close by and the smell just got real bad in my room
