Parakeet Bird Cages Can Kill Your Bird

The excitement of bringing your new feathered friend home may also have you asking many questions like where is the best place for parakeet bird cages. When you have questions like that it is best to gather as much information as possible to keep your new friend happy and healthy. There are several things that determine where to place your new friend’s home and where not to place it. When your parakeet is happy they are friendly, fun and a great enjoyment for the entire family to enjoy. Placing their home in a comfortable spot for them will allow them to feel as if they are a part of their new family.

There are several areas where you should not place a parakeet’s bird cage. Parakeets can handle a consistent temperature of warmth or coolness, the one thing they cannot tolerate is abrupt temperature changes. This will mean keeping their cage away from windows, doors and vents because of the drafts from these areas causing sudden temperature change. Also it is important to keep them out of direct sunlight as they cannot tolerate direct sunlight as well. Knowing exactly where to place your parakeet’s home is important in keeping them safe and healthy.

You want to stay away from placing their parakeet cage on the floor or using a parrot cage that stands on the floor because being low to the ground may make them feel threatened. The best place for parakeet bird cages are up from the ground. This will be more like their natural habitat of living in trees where they will be more comfortable. Having the cage at eye level will help limit their nervousness and make them feel more at home.

Enjoyment for you, your family and your parakeets will be easy when you provide them with everything they need to feel secure and happy. Finding the right toys to place inside their new home will help them be active and have a good time. Placing their cage in a place that will make them feel comfortable, secure and where they are around everyone else will bring out the most enjoyment for them and you.

The Sun Parakeet/Conure – An Overview

The Sun Parakeet, or also known as the Sun Conure, is a very well-known type of parrot due to its distinct appearance. Their namesake is never an overstatement because when one looks at them, it is very easy to perceive that the color of their feathers makes them seem like a very miniature incarnation of a mythical phoenix or, of course, the sun itself. They are medium-sized brightly colored parrot native around the northeastern regions of South America.

Needless to say, these exotic birds are sexually monomorphic. There is no distinction in appearance between male and female Sun Parakeets. Adult Sun Conures have rich yellow crown, neck, cloak, lesser wing-coverts, tip of greater wing-coverts, chest and underwing-coverts. The face and belly are orange-flushed, which blends attractively with the yellow plumage, making them appear like animate impressions of the sunrise and sunset illumination. The tips of the wings are colored green, as well as its tail which possess an olive-like variant. Their bills are sheer black and their legs and eye rings are naturally painted grey or white. The average weight of a Sun Parakeet is approximately 110 grams and their height ranges around 30 centimeters. One can distinguish and adult and a juvenile because the latter has a greater propensity for green coloration around its designated body parts.

The Sun Parakeet Parrots are among the many creatures described by the 18th Century Swedish naturalist Carl Linnaeus, whose reputation puts him in the same level with that of Charles Darwin and Jean-Baptiste Lamarck. The Sun Parakeet was first listed in Carl Linnaeus’ famous work, Systema Naturae. Its scientific name is Aratinga Solstitatis. They are already classified as endangered species in a matter of few decades due to vast wholesale foraging for the pet trade.

The Sun Parakeet Parrots are one of the rarest exotic birds known in the world and their intensive study is steeped with many inconclusive and unsubstantial reports about their habitat. Yet by virtue of orthodox perspective it is widely believed that these solar creatures occur around savannah and coastal woodlands commonly known all over the Caribbean coastlines of South American continent. Sun Parakeets are highly social and they are reported to mingle with their own rare kind numbering as much as 30 individuals in a group. They are known for their loud squawking despite their small size. As far training a parrot goes they have very limited capability for mimicking speech but like many parrots, they love to incessantly chew and a handler must provide them with toys and treats to keep them occupied throughout the day. They behave well with familiar humans but strangers are afforded with great hostility. They live for about 25 to 30 years of age.

How to get Budgies or Parakeets to start eating vegetables?

I have never had any problem when it comes to feeding my parakeets vegetables or fruits. But this was due to certain circumstances and I would like to let you know these circumstances so that you can also follow them and make your Pet birds to eat vegetables and fruits.

First of all I never had just one bird at home, I have always had more than five, including lovebirds, parakeets and cockatiels.

Lovebirds and cockatiels naturally have a tendency to eat vegetables and fruits which the parakeets do not posess due to thier small beaks. My parakeets first started to eat vegetables and fruits when they saw my lovebirds and cockatiels eating them and just followed thier fellow companions, they seemed to love it actually! So you need to show them that the vegetables and fruits are tasty and good to eat, you can do this by eating the vegetables and fruits yourself even, I’m not kidding!

Another way is to mix the fruits and vegetables in thier food mix of seeds and hence they have to bite at it if they want to eat. Then you need to hope that they like it and start eating the vegetables and fruits regularly on thier own.

Another way is to tie small parts of the fruits and vegetables to the parakeets favourite toys and hence hope that they eat it while playing with thier toys. This works really well if your birds have favourite toys.

Another way is to buy fruit and vegetable vitamins drops and put them in water, this is a sure fire way to get the vitamins and nutrients into them but the water may get contaminated soon and needs constant replacement.

I have written several such methods in my blog, I have even added HD videos of my parakeets learning from my lovebirds to eat vegetables and fruits as well as my parakeets eating coriander and chillies and how to hand feed them vegetables. So please see the links below.

In this video you can see Duke my budgie and Kili my Senegal Parrot getting weighed. “Bird scales” are really over priced so I made my own. I simply bought a digital kitchen scale that can measure weights up to 11lbs in oz or grams. I configured it to grams and I built my own perch to put on it. I tare the scale to 0 with the perch already on it and then there is a good place for the birds to stand while getting weighed. Weighing your bird is important to track health and training progress. A sudden drop in weight is often a sign of illness or other health problems. Also keeping track of my bird’s weight helps me gauge the motivation I can expect during training. One more use I have for this scale is weighing out food. I’ve gotten better at eyeballing how much food to give my birds but initially I used the scale to weigh out food for the birds and track their intake.
