also, what would be the approximate cost of a parakeet?
oh sorry, i didnt clarify

i live in the UK, so we dont have places like PetCo, PetsMart, Wal-Mart, K-Mart…or any of those normal pet stores.

like any living thing they take some care… as long as you feed and water them, and keep the cage clean they are fairly easy to maintain, I’ve had them and the longest one was a little over 2 years, hope this helps you. Have a great day. Walmart kmart target all have pet supplies. go to a pet store and look at the cages, and the fish tanks, if they are clean than you should be safe buying one, if they are not clean DON”T buy it there. You can get the food there also. you will need a cuddle bone also, It’s a long hard white item that you put in the cage so they can bite it, I don’t know what it does but i always had them.

Yea, they are fairly easy, but if you are away alot or cannot spend time with it for whatever reasonsyou should probably consider getting 2. I got mine (and all I needed, cage, food, toys, etc.) at Petsmart for around $100. But i would reccomend spending a little extra to make sure he is happy, also it helps with bonding to him. Check out for some EXCELLENT training guides.

Hi, where abouts in the uk are you? i can help you find a petshop if you like.

There other option is to check out there always bird being put on there with the cage and toys and everything.

Also if you type in parrotlink forum into google and go on to there homepage they have a breeders directory for the uk,

Keets are easy to care for, but please bare in mind they need a big cage with plenty of toys they need a good diet consisting of there normal food there on – normally seed (u can change this to pellets if you want) they need plenty of fresh fruit and veg.

Also they need plenty of interaction, so only get one if your going to be able to have it out alot and play with it, or if someone in you house is going to be able to, a bird shouldnt be left on his own for hours at a time, as it will get bored,

Difficult ? no, but they do require daily care.

Water should be changed 2 times a day

Feedings every day (pellets are better then seed mix) , but also introduce them to fruit & veggies (no avocado !!!)

If you not going to be able to spend time with them every day, get at least 2 birds, they are a flock bird, and require interaction with others.

If you can, check for a local rescue bird before buying one in the pet stores.

The first day / night, just let it get accustomed to the environment, and let it rest & get used to its surroundings.

Cost for the birds, cage (as large as you can afford), food, toys should run around $100-150

The other thing you need to do is find an avain vet.

In what short experience I’ve had, most birds are pretty easy to care for…….. you just got to feed it, provide clean water regularly + clean it’s cage when it needs doing.

As for where to find one, my best guess would be to look in your local Pet shop.
