i have 1 parakeet that laid 4 eggs & another laid 2 so far. I can’t wait for the first ones to hatch!

& yea the first egg that my parakeet laid was eaten by her. lol.

That’s not always the case. I had a female/male pair destroying every single egg she laid, nothing wrong with the eggs. I had another female who sat on 2-3 bad eggs, and that same female tried very hard to take care of a baby that was dying.

Put them in the laundry? Why are you going to breed?

    8. Michelle5451 on March 11th, 2010 8:23 pm

canguy – it all depends on genetics and their diet. Their normal life span is 10-15 yrs on the long side, but many die between 5-10 if not properly cared for. Budgies that live on seed only diets normally don’t live as long as those who are fed fresh veggies, greens, etc. Female budgies are susceptible to tumors around 5-7 yrs old.

They live atleast 8 years. But one of my parakeets is over 18 years old ! So it depends on how good you take care of them.

It is something you get used to, My cockatiel craps on my shirt all the time, you can brush it off when it dries,

the cere is above the beak, and the where the breathing holes for the nose so to speak are

      hahahaha,love the sarcasm……

a breeder told me that the birds know whether an egg is dodgy or not they also can tell whether the fetous is dodgy as well and thats why they kill them

Thank you for sharing, It give me an encouragement to buy a breeding pair and breed some budgies
I am going to put them in the laundry. you got any suggestions. I have found that the earlier you touch and handle them the more placid and tame they get.

oh……….thanks , I dont check it because I heard if you look at the parents or the egg it will get mad and eat the egg or something like that. Thanks :(

    19. xxxLovexLifexxx on March 11th, 2010 11:10 pm

@Valdovinos017 i think so cuz the mother laid it outside for a reason……. but since ur dad touched it the mom wont wanna take care of it cuz birds are really protective….

    20. Valdovinos017 on March 11th, 2010 11:30 pm

i have famlily here that like the birds and are willing to do that sumtimes

    22. Michelle5451 on March 12th, 2010 12:48 am

Are you home around the clock? Handfed babies have to be fed at a minimum of every two hours, around the clock. Are you willing to stay home from school/work to do that? Willing to get up every 2 hours all night long?

    23. fizzy408 on March 12th, 2010 12:54 am

ya im going to let the parents feed them till they get a lot bigger but still not weaned…ya that can happin with the air sacks sum people just shuve food down there throughts your suppost to put it in their beaks and let them swallow…but anyways ya i really want a tame tame parakeet so im guna hand raise it

    24. Michelle5451 on March 12th, 2010 1:42 am

The parents will feed it. Mom and dad both feed the baby. There’s no need for you to try and feed it unless mom and dad aren’t. Hand feeding a baby is very difficult, if you put the formula down the wrong way, you will fill it’s air sacs and kill it.

    25. fizzy408 on March 12th, 2010 2:35 am

ya thats what ive bin doing..when do you think i could start feeding it with my formula?
