An upper respiratory infection could also be caused by psittacosis. While at the vet have him test for it. You can’t draw blood from a parakeet but they can do the test where they swab the eye, mouth and bottom. I can’t remember what it is called. They will give an antibiotic and you will put it in there food or water.
I would like to say that I’m really glad that you are taking your keet to the vet. Not many people would.
yes they can try to treat the infection and it will be by antibiotics but it may not survive so please be aware of that like black above me said . it is usually a sign of the psittacious disease . I hope it is not the case with your keet . good luck .
Upper respiratory infections are not necessarily a sign of a viral or chlamydial disease and are often quite curable, particularly if the bird hasn’t lost a great deal of weight and if the infection is caught early. They are usually treated with an antibiotic to which the bacteria is susceptible (which can be confirmed by a culture and sensitivity).
