I got my budgie yestarday, and I can already tuch him , not like hes super tamed but he wont panic, and if I put my hand close to him, he can continue cleaning himself and such, and hes quite funny if I have my hand lower to the ground of the cage he goes under it searching for seeds .

@animallver1 He will never be tame if your dad keeps grabbing him and taking him in to a whole new big scary room, Would you like a big scary hand coming in your home and grabbing you?

    5. animallver1 on March 11th, 2010 7:08 pm

my male blue parakeet, Skittles, he doesnt like coming out of his cage. my dad has to grab him and take him to a seperate room so i can play with him. dont worry he DOESNT hurt him!!! but i just dnt understand why he doesnt wanna come out…i think its bcuz i hav another 1 in there wit him.

Hey expertvillage ive got my budgie like 2 days ago its a baby and it bites like hell plzz help me.

    7. VideoGamerGirl97 on March 11th, 2010 8:14 pm

It’s very dependent on the animals. I have a cat and a puppy! My puppy got used to it after a while but my cat was constantly trying to get in my room to see my budgies. I’m not letting him close to them until they are trained.

    8. dlfmog on March 11th, 2010 8:50 pm

Do budgies make a lot of noise? I am considering getting them, but am unsure. I have a cat as well. He is Siamese, and pretty calm. Do you think he’d be ok with the adjustment?

make sure you scratch its head and ensure you avoid the eye and the ear.

ive tamed all my birds, and have never purchased a hand raised bird. The key is to pat them and scratch their head. The best way is to keep it in a quiet area for around a week with nothing exciting or scary. use a stick or something and insert it through the cage and begin to use it to scratch it, slowly work your way closer and closer till you actually touch it when once you start touching it the trust will grow dramatically and will begin to be tame. this usually takes a week to do with steps

There is no need to take food away and that could be dangerous if you forget that you you’ve removed their food. If you simply offer a spray of millet (not from the palm of your hand but a long millet spray at first) first thing in the morning, before they eat their breakfast, they will be hungry and the millet will be tempting. After they take a few bites of millet, they begin to trust and you can gradually use shorter sprays of millet until they are eating out of your hand.

it is possible, but it will be really really hard because it older. it’s better to train them when they r younger.

i have 3 budgies, and one of them comes out of the cage by itself and when i go to handle, it’ll come on my finger, sit for a while but as soon as it hears the other birds, it’ll fly back to the cage, anyone have any suggestions on how to keep him from flying back?

U you say umm alot o.o

    16. balist0 on March 11th, 2010 11:49 pm

This is so wrong, yes you can tame a bird this way but WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO WHEN ITS LESS DAMAGING AND EASIER WITH OTHER METHODS?

    17. ricsobo on March 12th, 2010 12:16 am

      you are cute!

    18. scoobydoo289 on March 12th, 2010 1:15 am

sorry by the commet you just can’t take away their food

    19. scoobydoo289 on March 12th, 2010 1:38 am

you can’t train a bird get out of youtube you dont take away there food. You let them get used to your hand being in the cage.Right

    20. Gretarina on March 12th, 2010 1:59 am

@DemonFlame4 That must be because you were giving your bird negative experience of you. You can’t say that you want to it show some respect if you had been bad to it. It may be because youv’e taking it to your hand without the birds own will or etc… You should get him a friend if he’s being that long lonely. People, go to forums and get some knowledge before going youtube watching some taming videos… When getting a bird, no good breeder would sell you a bird alone, get a least two.

    21. bibigz on March 12th, 2010 2:41 am

this is not correct! sorry…taking away the food is not taming a budgie! I have two budgies and I never took their food away. they are very tame because I invested a lot of time in dealing with them. If you want budgies that trust you and jump on your hand you need to have PATIENCE. you cannot just force them to do as you wish because you paid for them..sorry..that’s stupid and makes me angry. Also, budgies are not made to be kept alone! you should always keep at least 2 of them.

    22. Stevemybear on March 12th, 2010 2:41 am

My birds beat up each otherfor the food lol

    23. DemonFlame4 on March 12th, 2010 3:40 am

I haven’t really touched my parakeet in 7 years, I’ve fed it, cleaned it, watered it, and saw it become fearful of me just by walking by its cage. But enough is enough, I want this bird to show some respect to me and man up. Anyone know if it’s still possible to tame this bird?

    24. raihdo on March 12th, 2010 4:18 am

you call yourself an expert!? putting away food is a inproper way to tame your bird.
lets see, if you would sleep with me, if i let you starve for some days.
      this is stupid.

    25. ThePattycake1313 on March 12th, 2010 5:02 am

NOT GOING TO DO THAT! MY NEPHEW WHO IS 15 WAS CLOWNING AROUND. He heard me complaing about my one crzy keet and thought this would be funny. Sorry I left my CPU on and sorry about the commet I removed it.
