Bird Cage Stand Reviews
Copyright (c) 2011 Sandra Tiffany
There are two types of bird cage stands: one is a tree-like structure with branches, ladders, circular stairs with perches that may also have a swing attached: two is a stand beneath the cages which supports it and may have mulitple shelves for accessory storage.
The tree-like bird cage stand allows the bird to get out of its cage and enjoy the freedom of the “playground.” Most birds truly enjoy this type of stand because of the freedom and it gives them the opportunity to fly around the house, exercise, stretch, flap their wings and socialize and interact with the members of the household. You may not like to clean up the bird droppings but you will have one happier bird. The “playground” type stand is very popular and one can purchase a relatively simple stand or top of the line with many accessories.
The bird cage stand beneath the bird cage that supports it comes in many colors, made of different materials, different shapes, have wheels or castors for mobility and can match the household décor. The stand is simple and effective.

The “playground” stand is usually a table, varies in size, is on castors and stands about 36 inches in height. These stands take up more room in the house and if you live in a warm climate, you may want to put the stand in a enclosed patio or day room. They usually have ladders with a variety number of steps. These ladders tend to very popular, particularly with parrots. The circular stairs are more popular with smaller such as the parakeet. However, all birds, big and small, like the perches and swings.
A cage stand is usually at least 28 inches in height and may be rectangular, square or round in shape with four legs and sometimes with wheels. If you buy a round bird cage stand that is small, it usually sits on a pedestal. A popular color is white, but they also come in black.
If the cage stand has shelves, there are usually two of them. The shelves can be made of wire mesh or they can be solid. The upper shelf is usually for the cage or “playground” and the lower shelf is usually for food or other supplies.
Following are some of the major manufacturers of cages and bird cage stands:
1. Hagen Vision-medium bird cage and stand: .
2. Preveu-Penthouse curved front bird cage and stand: .99.
3. Blue Ribbon Pet-Universal bird cage stand: .
4. A&E Cage Co.-Deluxe bird play stand: 2.95.
5. A&E Cage Co.-”O” parrot play stand: 1.95.

Buying a bird cage? Keep these tips in mind?
Some species of pet birds even have specific needs when it comes to appropriate dimensions and type of bird cage. However there are some general guidelines, which would help you choose a new home for your winged friend.
First off, one must decide where will your new bird cage be placed and buy according to the area you have reserved. It is preferred that the area is a fair distance away from any circumventing air drafts coming from windows or other openings. However, one should keep in mind that in order for a pet to become an active part of any family and develop a social relationship, bird cages should be placed in an active part of the home.
When you have reserved the right spot for your new bird cage, it is important to choose a cage of the right size and dimensions. When it comes to bird cages, bigger is always better, as long as the bar spacing is appropriate for your bird. While birds like a Finch or a Canary can be placed inside a small cage, other larger birds need more room to walk around with ease and fully extend their wings. One should also remember that food bowl, bird toys and bird perches will take a substantial amount of space inside a cage and this has to be taken into account.
]]>
The bar spacing of a bird cage is very important for your pet’s safety and security. One should look for a small bar spacing in order to prevent the smaller birds such as parakeets to squeeze through or become stuck in between the bars. When it comes to larger birds such as a parrot, bar separation can be wider and preferably have a horizontal orientation to allow birds to climb on the sides of the cage and exercise.
When it comes to shape and style, one should try and avoid round, cylindrical bird cages, as studies have shown that these can affect a bird’s psychological health. As most birds get most of their exercise flying within a cage from side to side rather than up and down, the length of bird cages is more important than the height. If you’re considering placing bird toys then one should try and find a cage which complements the activity resulting from the use of this toy.
If your new bird cage is to become a prominent part of your home decor, you should get the best quality cage you can find. It needs to be sturdy and solid, and have no loose parts or cutting edges. Stainless steel is often the preferred material as it is non-toxic and would pose no threat to the bird’s health. It is also easy to clean and will not chip away. As a bird cage’s primary function is to protect its host, one should avoid features such as fancy scroll work or designs which could increase the risk of a bird’s head, wings or feet to be caught in.
A well-built bird cage gives bird and owner many years of use and enjoyment. One must remember that just like us, a bird will appreciate a nice living environment, given it will spend most of its time in the same location.

Tips and Guidelines for bird pet owners
Birds generally will do a good job of taking care of themselves if provided with some basic needs. However if one is to truly keep his pet in top shape he needs to follow some routine procedures and live to his responsibilities.
First of all one should provide his bird with proper food. There are basically two types of bird categories: seed eaters or hard-bills, like finches and canaries, and hookbills like parakeets and cockatiels. Seed eaters eat seeds of different grasses and plants when in their native environments. Providing these birds with commercial seed mixes and leafy greens such as chicory or dandelions, and slice of apple or orange will nourish them very well. On the other hand, hookbills consume leaves, fruit and berries so preferably they should be supplied with large seeds like safflower and sunflower together with an assortment of fruit and vegetables. They can consume these items very efficiently thanks to their strong, bigger beaks.
Bird cages should have a minimum of one food bowl, one water bowl for drinking and another for bating. These should be cleaned daily as when they eat, birds leave seeds and seed hulls in the feed dish and drinking bowl. Water and food must be replenished daily as what could appear as a full cup of seed might be all hulls. One should make sure bowls are made of a durable material and they allow thorough cleaning and disinfections. Bird cages should also have perches of an appropriate size and placed as such as to encourage the bird to move from one to the other by flying or hopping. In case of larger birds, like parrots, one should avoid placing more than two perches in their parrot cages as they could limit the space available for movement. Food and drinking bowls should not be placed beneath perches, as bird droppings would foul their contents.
Although finches and canaries usually do not use bird toys, parrots enjoy objects that they can manipulate or climb on, or chew up or hide in. Therefore bird toys are critical for parakeets, lovebirds, and cockatiels and should be placed in all parrot cages. There is a wide variety of wooden and plastic bird toys available. Some birds also enjoy their reflection from small mirrors.
Birds tend to keep themselves quite clean, but may need a bit of help. All birds enjoy and require a bath. Most birds self-bathe pretty vigorously in a shallow water bowl within their Bird cages. The bathing bowl should be kept separate from the bird’s drinking water. Another form of hygiene that birds maintain is preening. Self-preening is form of caring and grooming its feathers. Preening will ensure that their feathers are neat and nice. It is very important to trim a bird’s nails periodically when they start to curl or curve around, as they could have problems sitting on their perch. If properly taken care of, birds live for quite a long time and all members of the family can enjoy their presence.

Bird cages – 5 Tips and hints on procuring a bird cage
You will need to fully understand what you are looking for when purchasing bird cages. It is definitely an important choice for the health of your pet birds. The bird cage will probably be home for almost all of your bird’s life, so any cage should really be a secure as well as safe spot for birds, in addition to a comfy space to enjoy and sleep.
If you are new to bird keeping, the variety of features, materials, designs and different sizes are often very confusing, actually bewildering, so these are some vital guidelines to be considered when buying bird cages:
Purchase the biggest bird cage you can
The biggest mistake when selecting a bird cage is deciding on one that is too small. Buy the biggest cage you can afford for the comfort along with health of the birds. There are bare minimum cage size requirements for different bird varieties and if you would like to keep several birds the cage sizing must be proportionately greater.
Bar space is crucial
In addition to the cage size, the actual bar space and thickness are vital on your bird’s safety. Too huge bar space and they could get their heads trapped in between the bars or even escape; way too small and they are able to get toes, beaks or wings stuck and trigger injury. Also the thickness is vital. For smaller sized birds a thin width wire will likely be adequate. However the larger the bird, the more substantial and stronger the bars will have to be in order to stop the actual bars becoming bent or even broken.
Maintain your birds in the appropriate shape
Getting a bird cage of the correct shape will be significant for the health of your birds. Circular cages should be shunned in general as this can cause confusion and psychological disorders in most birds. Rectangular cages tend to be ideal and, for most birds, width is more critical than height. This is particularly relevant for smaller birds such as parakeets, finches along with canaries as they often fly from side to side in the cage permitting them to exercise.
Your bird cage needs to be straightforward to clean
Health of the birds must also be an important factor when selecting a new bird cage for your feathered pets. The bird cage needs to have easy access for cleaning, ideally because birds are messy critters. Thus choose a cage wherever your hand can certainly reach into each place. Bird cages with larger doors and also the ones with trays that could be readily taken off are the best choices.
Safety is vital
The most important factor to consider when choosing bird cages is safety. The materials that the bird cage will be built, any sharp sides or components, use of plastic materials and finishes are all elements which can impact the safety of your bird.
Cages should be produced from stainless steel or painted with non-toxic pant and oven-baked to produce a tough finish. Plastic coated wire isn’t recommended. Soft or breakable plastics can be simply broken as well as swallowed by birds. If the cage wires are welded together, these should be robust enough to prevent breakage by your bird and all cut ends should really be smoothed and also well finished in order to avoid injuries.
Generally you will get exactly what you pay for when choosing bird cages, consequently expect inexpensive bird cages not to last as long as a better quality one. However some web retailers where you will discover outstanding high quality bird cages for sale at discount prices.
Keep these kind of factors in mind every time you are getting a bird cage and you can experience the satisfaction of your birds with the understanding that you will have supplied them a comfortable, protected and sound environment to call home.

Parrot Story
Parrot Story
Parrot breeding is one of a million and interesting hobby that many people desire. Like me, I am a hobbyist whom I engaged in the field of birds that I really love and enjoy. I am very glad that in many years of trial and failure in the hobby that I choose which is breeding different kinds of bird. There are many things that I experienced and learned in breeding birds. There are two things that I encountered bad and good things. At first, entertaining is my target but in the days, weeks, months and years pass, there are many things that I discovered and make up in my mind that I really enjoy this kind of hobby. After that, it became business. Should I call it hobby or profession? Maybe I should call it profession because in my years of breeding birds I spent most of my time taking care of them, many nights I didn’t go to sleep to make sure of their safety, doing the night work looking for them time to time. Regular checking of the babies most especially when there are many chicks to feed. Way back in the beginning, I got a pair of parakeets that my mom gave to. I have no idea how to take care of those birds. Suddenly they died in some reason. I don’t know how they died and the cause of their death because I am not aware in caring them. I really love birds.
Parrots usually need toys most especially young parrots. In breeding parrots or keeping this intelligent bird you must know how to deal with them or how to bond with them. They need time to play just like our kids and they need to play not just for fun but they play for exercise. Birds also need exercise just like ours. To make them fit not to make them fat. Fat birds are easy to die and they are not reproductive in other way of saying they are not fit well. Like human being fat people prone to heart attack and high blood diseases. Some times fat people cannot produce babies same as in birds. That is why they need to play and exercise. They need toys and other things to play too.
There are many different types of bird toys that are easy to find in your local pet stores. If you are buying bird toys look for the toys that will fit to your bird. First step you have to do or know the kind of bird that you are keeping. This is very important in buying bird toys. You cannot give small toy to the big species of birds it is very hazardous to them is just because it is possible them to choke the small parts of the small toys. Same thing with the small birds they cannot enjoy the big toys because it is big. Maybe they cannot afford to gnaw it or they cannot even to move it because is it very big and heavy.
Secondly, choosing the right materials of bird toys is also important. Sharp pointed steel toys can harm your bird; small parts can also harm them if they swallow it, rusty materials can also cause of ill ness and sudden death, painted toys can also harm your birds and cause by death.
Parrot toys are easy to find in your local pet store or you can make by your own choice. Making Toys for them are full of enjoyment and in the same time exiting. Like me, I make my own toys for my birds. Yes it is possible, for small birds like parakeets or budgies you can offer them parakeet toys like shinny and bright things, bells, small wooden blocks, small wooden ladders, mirrors, or you can think any things that can catch their attention. In parrots you can offer a multiple layer wooden ladder, wooden blocks, they also love balls and bells. You can offer them wooden perch or twigs to play with and in the same time exercising their beaks. You can think more but be careful of the materials that you are choosing in making bird toys. Think first of their safety.
I am a hobbyist; Breeding Parakeets and Parrots are my favorite hobby. Collecting different types of birds is also interesting.

this is two of my budgies (parakeets) Minnion, the white lacewing, and L, the mauve opaline spangle (who are actually best friends, that also hate each other)fighting for supremacy over a toy that has qualities all too similar to that of a breeding box, i dont allow it inside the cage, but i do allow the budgies out of the cage sometimes… if i had the toy inside their cage, they would probably lay eggs, and then all manner of problems would come up…

Taking Care of Your Bird
These beautiful birds are hardy and child-friendly, making them equally popular pets for children and adults. You can find Parakeets in a variety of vibrant colors and they make great apartment pets because of their small size. They also require less care and maintenance than many other larger bird species. Known for their lovely songs, these birds have also been able to learn a word here and there if given the right encouragement. If taken care of properly, these birds can live up to 14 years.
Most of us have had cats and/or dogs as pets, and they are very good animals and loving companions. However, one thing about dogs and cats is the fact that they have a relatively short lifespan, and we all know how traumatic the loss of a beloved pet can be. Amazon parrots, as with most parrots, can live for many decades. This writer has owned his yellow napped Amazon for nearly 3 decades!
Are you allergic to pet fur? Some people will be allergic to pet fur or hair, if you are one among them then do not get pets; just like humans pets also shed hair which might affect your health. Once you get them you cannot blame them for your allergic nature neither you can kill them for causing allergy to you.
Next you will need to stock up on some food for your finch. You can easily purchase pellets made specifically for finches, just make sure that it is high quality bird food. Finches require a diet combination of white millet, hulled oats and canary grass, so keep this in mind when deciding on a specific brand. Also make sure that your finch has clean, fresh water daily.
Macaw cages come in a variety of sizes but none are small. There are also double macaw cages for multiple birds or when separation is necessary. Macaw cages need to be large. They also need to be secure. These are smart and strong birds. Macaw bird cages must have a secure latching system so that an escape does not happen. They should be stocked with a variety of perches and toys to maintain an adequate activity level when confined.
The various parrots stand help being hooked among them and are a good exercising machine for them. To keep their mood upbeat particular treats like decorative items and special attention helps a lot. If you are worried how they will pass their time when you are out, you can be carefree, as they will have ample toys to play with and have extra time to exercise. Also getting another companion to them is a big advantage as they can complement each other while you are away.
You should also have plenty of sprouted seeds, cuttlebone and mineral block. Make that all of the food is incredibly fresh and should your bird reject the food; be sure to remove it from the cage before it spoils. Also, if you can afford to, purchase organic food. It will be much better for your Macaw in the long run because he or she won’t be ingesting potentially harmful pesticides and additives.

Can Parakeets and Lovebirds and cockatiels be kept together?
The age old question has a simply yet complicated answer.
Lovebirds, parakeets and cockatiels can be kept together and sometimes they can not be kept together. It all depends on the personality and attitude of the birds as each bird is different in personality from others just like we humans they have unique personalities. But usually the Lovebirds are the ones that decide whether they can be kept together as the parakeets and cockatiels get along with each other as both are very friendly and docile creatures, whereas the lovebirds are more territorial and have been known to attack other pet birds, big or small and have been known to kill budgies and cockatiels or just break their legs or rip open thier beaks.
After saying this you might be wondering if you can ever keep them together, actually my birds get along very well, you can see HD videos of Parakeets, Lovebirds and cockatiels living happily together at the Link i have provided at the bottom. There you can also see that its not always a rosy picture and they do fight when it comes to who gets to eat first.
Final verdict is try keeping them together under constant supervision untill you are confident that they will live together in harmony. Even then never leave them too long without supervision as you can never tell what they will be up to.
This is adry subject and just reading will not help, you need to see my Birds in HD videos I have posted at the link name- Lovebirds Parakeets Cockatiels Together and understand better how they react around each other.
Hope it helped.

All About Parrots: Parrot Care Basics
Parrots are a lifetime investment and the care of these magnificent birds is very essential to their health and happiness. Since some birds in the parrot family can live up to 50 years, an investment in parrots and how to care for them is often compared to caring for children. If this is something that does not interest you, then you may not want to own a bird.
There are an estimated 11 million pet birds in the United States alone with the majority owning a Parrot. The birds in the parrot family will include birds as small as parakeets and love birds to cockatoos and Macaws, the Macaw being the largest bird in the parrot family.
There are many different species of parrots. An African grey parrot grows to be about 13 inches, and he’s one of the birds who has a longer life. He is also known for his capabilities to mimic all sorts of sounds, in addition to developing and parroting speech patterns.
The parakeet are among the best known of the parrot species. Another species is the Australian “budgie.” This nickname is given to the budgerigar, a brilliant green and yellow variety of parrot. They are gentle and friendly.
An Amazon parrot has 27 subspecies. This parrot has short wings but is every bit as smart as a dolphin or a monkey. He is also an expert at imitating a wide range of sounds.
These are only some of the many species of parrots. Owning a parrot is an excellent alternative over other pets for those individuals who do not prefer the traditional dogs or cats, reptiles or others.
So what sort of cage should you buy for your new parrot? Regardless of whether you’re expecting to adopt a smaller bird or a larger of the parrot species, my suggestion is to buy the largest, practical cage that your budget can afford. The bigger the cage, the more freedom he will experience and the more comfortable he will be.
In relation to your parrot’s health, his appearance is telling. His plumage should look healthy, meaning the coloring should be bright and smooth. Additionally, he should be clean. That is, there should be no dirt hanging for his feet or his beak.
Before you purchase a parrot, you should get a clear understanding of the types of routine parrot care that is needed, medical care for parrots, understand parrot types and their personalities and which size parrot would best fit your wants and needs.
Become well educated in the ownership and care of these wonderful birds and you will be enjoying your new parrot in no time.
