Parque Nacional Nahuel Huapi
Stretching along the Andes from Lago Marcardi to Villa Traful, Parque Nacional Nahuel Huapi, is a nature retreat for visitors to Bariloche in the lakes district of Argentina. The country’s first ever national park was created in 1934, made possible by a donation from naturalist Francisco Perito Moreno. The 7500 hectares of land extend across dramatic mountains, lakes, rivers, glaciers, waterfalls, torrents, rapids, valleys, forests, bare mountains and snow-covered peaks.
There are no official entry points into the magical park, but Bariloche is a popular starting point. Equip yourself with information, transportation, maps, and gear before venturing into the park. For more information contact the Associating of Guides, who are trained in geography, flora, and fauna. The National Park intendencia and Club Andino Bariloche can also provide helpful information about walks, buses, and the like.
The focal point of the park is its largest lake, Lago Nahuel Huapi. You can explore the fjord-like arms of waters and all 531 sq km of the lake on boat. Explore the lake’s many islands or settle on Isla Victoria in a luxurious hotel. The southern shore of the lake has accommodations, hiking, rafting, boats and other tours available. The lake stretches far into the west towards Chile, where there is a virgin Valdivian rainforest. To the north there is a park within a park; Parque Nacional Los Arrayanes contains rare woodlands full of exquisite arrayán trees covered in cinnamon-colored flaky bark.
The vegetation varies by altitude and climate but you will likely see large expanses of southern beech forests filled with old coihue trees. Near the Chilean border where the rainfall is strongest, you will see an ancient species of bamboo cane called cana colihue. The eastern parts of the park are more steep-like with arid land, low shrubs, and dry bushes. Amidst all the flora, watch for the local wildlife including the small pudú deer, foxes, cougars, guanacos, and the endangered huemul and river otter. Easily spot birds such as swans, geese, ducks or the more exotic scarlet-headed Magellan woodpeckers and green austral parakeets.
Since the main attraction is the fabulous scenery, the main activity is understandably hiking. There are many well marked trails in the peaks south of Bariloche, Mount Tronador, and others. However, you can also enjoy world-class skiing at Cerro Catedral between June and September, or horseback ride around an estancia. Swim in small lakes during the summer, take a day trip across the larger Lago Nahuel Huapi, or raft along the Rio Manso. Whatever activities you choose, you will be fortunate to enjoy them in such a magnificent Argentine national park.
This guide to Nahuel Huapi National Park in Argentina was written by a Argentina travel expert at Argentina For Less available to help you custom design your exciting Argentina vacations.

So I have been casually target training Rosie, and today I thought I’d go a little bit further and try to get her to step up onto my hand to touch the stick. Well, one thing lead to another and we started working on recall. We started this at noon and practiced for about half an hour, and when I came home we did some more, unfortunately as soon as I turned on the camera I guess she finally got bored/full and decided she’d had enough for today.

Bolivia Amazon: A Different Adventure
Ask anyone to think about a trip to the Amazon Rainforest and it’s more than likely that Brazil will spring to mind. But did you know that more than half of Bolivia’s territory is in the Amazon basin? Bolivia is an undervalued place for fabulous jungle tours and for spotting wildlife in the Amazon.
Where To Go?
The Madidi National Park covers 1.8 million hectares and is one of the most intact ecosystems in South America. There is a huge diversity of flora and fauna here thanks to the range in habitat, from the lowland rain forest to the mountains that reach 5500m. The park protects more species than any other in the world; there are over 45,000 different plant species and over 1,000 tropical bird species, making it a great place for your visit to the Amazon.
Where to Stay?
There are some super projects in the Bolivian Amazon. One of the best is the Chalalan Lodge in Madidi National Park. In 2010 it was listed in the Lonely Planet’s Top 10 Sustainable travel experiences in the world. While these days many jungle lodges jump on the “Sustainable Tourism” band wagon this project really is worthy of the title.
Community Owned Sustainable Tourism
The lodge was established and is owned by Quechua-Tacana people who live in the San José de Uchupiamonas community. The Quechua-Tacana peoples have lived in harmony with the surrounding jungle for over 300 years. 20 years ago they realised that Eco-Tourism was a way of protecting their land and traditions from the threats of deforestation and the migration of young people to the cities.
The lodge is owned and run 100% by the local community and benefits already include clean drinking water, and improved health, education and training standards.
What is the Accommodation Like?
It is often difficult in such a project to get the balance right between the local environment and the needs of the community and the demands of tourists who want to visit the area. Here the staff have excelled in providing clean, comfortable accommodation, expert local guides and a very welcoming environment. The passion for their environment and project show in every detail which is probably what makes Chalalan so special. Rooms are simple but comfortable and clean with cold water showers (but with temperatures high they are welcome!). Your stay includes 3 delicious meals a day so you get to try many local specialities.
How to Get There?
Most people fly from La Paz to Rurrenebaque, a jungle town on the river Yacuma. From here a motorised canoe takes you upstream for a few hours. Lodge staff meet are waiting to help with luggage leaving you free to follow your guide through along the forest path to the lodge.
What Can You See and Do There?
Activities include; nature walks, bird spotting, hikes, night canoe trips, nature talks, handicraft demonstrations, and a goodbye ceremony on the last night where you get to try the local drink “leche de tigre” (“Tiger’s milk”). Madidi is home to 340 species of birds including parakeets, toucans, parrots, woodpeckers, wild turkeys. Animals include the spectacled bear, Andean deer, Andean cat, white-tailed deer , jaguar, puma, white-lipped peccary, the red howler monkey and spider monkey; not to mention more frogs and bugs than you can shake a stick at (and probably will…)..
Into Latin America designs customized tours to show you the real South America. We have all lived and travelled in South America and know it pretty well. Find out how to get 5% off your trip to Bolivia Amazon when you combine your trip with Machu Picchu and more.

Barcelona Holidays and the Ideal Park to visit for Gaudi
Places to go while in your HOLIDAY RENTALS IN BARCELONA? It can be awkward to choose from the many exciting places to go and see. Antoni Gaudi, the architect son of Barcelona, has been responsible for a lot of buildings there including the unfinished Segrada Familia. His Park Güell on the other hand is finished.
Park Güell in Barcelona is a complex garden based on an English idea by Sir Ebenezer Howard who initiated urban planning in England. His idea of garden cities intended as self contained communities surrounded by greenbelt parks was described when he published a book called “Garden Cities of Tomorrow” in 1898. The intention of the Count Eusebi Güell was to exploit the fresh air high up on the hill and to segregate the land into 60 individual triangular lots provided for luxury housing. Only two houses were ever built: one of which was intended as a show house. The count moved into the first and after failing to sell the second property suggested to Antoni Gaudi to take the second. He did so and lived there until his death in 1926. The house became the Gaudi Museum “La Torre Rosa” and was declared a historical artistic monument in 1969. Entrance to the Park is free, but there is a cost to visit the museum.
Although there is a train service the station is at the bottom of the hill and it’s a hard walk up to the park. The park is designed to bring peace and calm: the parks focal point is the terrace surrounded by a sea serpent designed as a bench. The seats were designed by using a naked workman’s buttocks in wet clay. Many motifs from Catalan Nationalism and certainly elements from mysticism and ancient poetry have been used in the designing of many of the statues that dot the park. As you meander around the narrow twisting pathways, every corner offers another delight of Gaudi’s imagination or some beautiful view of Barcelona. It seems so easy to become lost within the almost maze like turns. Like all parks, Park Güell has many trees and shrubs and, of course, the unusual colourful sculptures and mosaics.
When the park first opened the visitors would have been greeted at the gate by two life sized mechanical gazelles. Unfortunately the wrath of war has caused the two gazelles to be lost. Now there are two buildings designed by Gaudi that flank the entrance and designed with all of the flair of a Gaudi designed house with fantastic shaped roofs and unusual pinnacles. All in line with the many pieces inside the park, the mosaic dragon fountain on the entrance steps or colonnaded footpaths with diagonal supports, the terraced walls with bird nests built into them the walls imitate the trees that have been planted above them.
There is a growing population of monk parakeets that have become common amongst the pigeons and the sparrows. There are hummingbirds that can be found here too but you may need to look hard to find them while your here on your HOLIDAY RENTALS IN BARCELONA.
Porsche is an avid traveller throughout the holiday region of Spain. She loves writing about all of those special hideaways we all would love to find so keep reading about all of her travels and things to do in this lovely country. At present she is travelling and writing for Akilar.com and telling you just why you should book your dream holiday home from the Owners Direct.

Familiarizing Yourself With Different Parrot Species
Fascinated to the world of the fast-talking, fun-loving parrots? Are you contemplating on the idea of getting one as your pet bird? If you have plans of purchasing one in the future, then you must familiarize yourself with the different parrot species existing in the pet trades and pet stores today.
As defined, parrots are a very popular group of birds for possessing high intelligence depending on the degree of its socialization and training. Famous for its ability to imitate human speech and various sounds, these tropical colorful birds are mainly found in Australia and South America.
Having a variety of species, parrots differ in size and color. Some parrots are bigger and grander while others are smaller and typical. When it comes to colors, green is considered the most common shade of parrots and are usually wonderful pets for their amazing talking abilities. Several types of parrots are multi-colored-with a distinctive combination of bright blue, yellow, green, and white mixtures.
These birds are also characterized by having powerful hooked bills and feet meant for tree climbing. Mainly vegetarian, other basic foods of almost all types of parrots are includes fruits, chicken or meat and a lot of seeds. Although they belong to only one family of birds, parrot species have distinctive personalities and nature. Some of them are naturally friendly while some are moody and destructive because they pluck their feathers if they are bored or unhappy.
Parrot species include Macaws, Conures, Amazons, African Gray Parrots, Cockatiels, Cockatoos, Budgerigars, and Eclectus. Macaws are one of the most coveted birds in aviculture because of their comical and affectionate nature. Conures, on the other hand, are small cousins of the Macaw that has 2 sub-specie: Aratinga and the Pyrrhura.
While Conures are known for its variety of color and gentle personality, Amazons are famous for their superb talking ability. Considered as the most popular large parrots in aviculture that exhibits distinct personalities, amazons are often considered as delightful pets for imitating sounds well.
African Grey Parrots is probably the most intelligent parrot there is. Despite their intelligence, greys can be hard to handle because they are generally quiet, resulting to stress attacks and reactions.
Cockatoos are considered among the favorites because they are beautiful, smart, playful, cuddly, and good talkers. Although they are generally tame, cockatoos can be hard to handle because they thrive in too much attention.
Cockatiels are most common pet birds because they are easy to breed and are relatively inexpensive pets; Budgerigars or “parakeets” that are usually afraid of humans if not trained properly; and the Eclectus that are “sexually dimorphic” or the male and females look markedly different.

First, before you select any bird make sure you understand the needs of that specific breed. Some require more space, some require more attention and some are just much more difficult to care for.
How to: Find Bird Information
Second, space is a very important issue. If you have limited space for an adequate size cage for your bird do not choose a large bird such as a parrot. You may want to choose a canary, finch or parakeet. You want to make sure there is enough room in the cage for your bird to get exercise.
Third, if you have chosen a bird that requires attention affection you and your family better be around for them. Some birds such as Cockatiels require human companionship. Some birds are happy to sit on their human owners shoulder all day. If you have chosen a breed that requires human attention, make sure you and your family will be there for the bird.
Fourth, most birds love to be taken out of their cage and handled by their owner. You must learn how to properly handle your bird and make sure you are not hurting the bird. Handling your bird will make for a much closer relationship with your bird.
Fifth, learn what is the proper diet for your bird. The diet of birds vary greatly by breed. You also want to learn what could be hazardous for your bird, such as house plants. With good nutrition your bird can live a long and healthy life.
