How do I care for my mom’s parakeets while I’m away?
Category: Parakeet Community
My mom is on vacation until the beginning of the year. In a week, I’ll be gone until the beginning of the year as well. I don’t really know anyone else that can take care of them for us. It’s pretty cold because of winter. The inside of the house can drop into the low 40′s without the heater on. I’ll be gone for two weeks. - walton30052

you cannot leave the birds alone. try your local pet store, many offer bird boarding services where they take yoru birds for a while.
Find a reputable Bird Sitter,I do this for people all of the time.If they come to your house, they must be Bonded and Insured, and if the Birdies go to their house, they must be healthy, and you should always see where they are going to be kept.Give instruction about their diet, their habits, when they are usually handled, and when they usually go to sleep.
Simply put, you must find someone to take them for you until you or your mom return. They will NOT survive in such cold temps. let alone without being fed and watered every single day.
I wouldn’t even advise having someone come into your home daily… they need to have company and need to be in temps. at LEAST 60 degrees.
You can also try finding a pet sitter or place that boards birds in your area.
Don’t leave them in your home for that long or they likely will not survive.
