How do I take care of my parakeet? How do I befriend it in the quickest way? How do I get it to trust me?

    Category: Parakeet Community

I have two parakeets, one named Chidori one named Chidoryuu. Sept. 20th 2007 was the day I took them home. Ane here, I thought I’d be having a great time with them on the first day, polaying, screaming together, and annoying my mother (teehee) and so on. But they don’t even trust me! They yell at me everytime I try to get my hand into the cage. I tried everything, putting food in my palm, whistling until my throat went dry, everything. But they won’t let me approach them. I really want to become friends with Chidori-chan and Chidoryuu-kun, but how? Can you guys help me out?????

Make sure you dont have mirrors in the cage
No other…birds or fake play like looking birds

You just slowly have to work with the bird to befriend it. It has to learn it can trust you. I’ve kept birds ever since I can remember, and they can be stubborn sometimes. It just takes time and patience, and if you dont have that, it will never work.

You can’t force a bird to trust you fast. First off the only place they feel safe is in their cage(their territory). If you go putting your hand in their safe place your going to get bit. Let them come to you, out of the cage by them self. Leave the door open, they will come out eventually, even if it’s not the first day, they will come out. After they come out of the cage, try putting a finger down by their feet pushing them gently on their belly right by their feet, they should step right up, if not and your afraid they will bite you use a pencil using the same technique. Try to handle them everyday so they get used to you. Don’t be loud and moving fast, be slow, quiet, and gentle, and before you know it, they will be your best friend. :)

Do not waste your time. If these birds were not hand raised and hand fed, and they live together, they will NEVER be tame. They are relating to each other and not to YOU.
They are two birds together, why should they like you. It was a mistake to get these birds if you wanted a companion bird.

You need a single handfed, handraised bird if you want a friend.
