How easy is it to take care of a parakeet? And other questions?

I already have two rabbits and a turtle, but plenty of time to take care of them (I always care for them before I do anything else). Are parakeets easy to take care of?How much is the initial cost for two parakeets, a cage, toys, etc?Do they smell?

That depends on the type of parakeet you get, Some are easier than others. I have a lineolated parakeet and shes just starting to become a bit hand tame, but at first she was a pain in the ass. I have no idea about budgies though I’ve heard there really flighty and probably a little shy and scared at first. l really wanted a budgie at first but my parents wouldn’t let me because of there characteristics. My brother and sister have parrotlets and there really nice birds once trained there around $150-$175 but they said it was worth the money. The cost varies though like i’d say a cage on average is around $100-$150 if you get a good one. The toys are killer though at the pet stores I buy them at even for small ones there like $6-$8 each, but the cheapest method is to make them. The food is pretty expensive, like we spend about $18 on bird food for a bag but it expires =P. When you get your bird they love millet so give them of that, You’ll need to get something that gives vitamins. I use aquavite you put a tiny bit in there water, andthat’ss around $9.00. But you cant go cheap on your bird!. And you can always adopt a bird and give it a home =). But do some Research.

for 2 budgies it should cost no more then 50 bucks the cage will cost any where from 50 to a few hundred dollar the bigger the cage the better but make sure the bar are no more the 1/2 inch apart the birds themselves don’t really smell but you will need to change the cage daily because left over food and poop can smell bad. toys don’t cost all that much but you will need a good selection so you can trade toys out because if the play with the same thing over and over they will get bored. also if you plan for the to become hand train you will need 2 cages and keep them in 2 different room because if they are together they will not have much interest in you so best to keep separate until both or train then but them together. to me males seem easier to train and they are also more verbal
