well as much as id like to help you, the truth is, yes they can be noisy at times, but there really not THAT smelly if you just do some maintnance such as cleaning poop, which they frequently do…..but overall there not hard to take care of.

They are extremely noisy and messy. They also stink if you dont clean the cage daily. If you buy one be sure to buy one from a pet store. most of the ones at flee markets are wild birds that you cant do anything with. Parakeets are more trouble than they are worth (speaking from experience).

when i was a little younger, my family had two. They are smart and love people but it is true that they do stink. i know how it feels to bribe!!!

never! i just got a new baby parakeet just a week ago xD and no its never noisy… till they are very fond of you, ie. they LOVE you and they want you to play with them. Although in the morning they chirp at 7:30 everyday to wake me up :P and no they arent smelly, i cant even smell them and i clean her cage. and yes they are messy… i clean out the cage in morning one time, come back from school and she took poops all over the paper :/ and if you scare them they might hit the food you give them and it spills although that stopped now for me =D. Nah I’ve never found it hard to take care of my parakeet, so easy now that i know she can’t fly :P … just take your bird to a deserted room free from things that can kill her, let her out (make sure your bird can’t fly before you do that, so before you buy a parakeet ask the seller) let her out, and then take apart the cage to clean. After your done cleaning i’d just get her into a open space and slowly place the cage above her
and on top of her. Then she jumps onto a piece of wood thingie inside and i reattatch the cage and the bottom and voila im doe :]

well your mom is right they are all the things she said they are.
well i think you can get one if you can keep his cage clean because they tend to poop alot

They are not smelly if you clean there cage when there’s lots of poop. They can be messy because sometimes they flap vigorously. And to some people parakeets are really annoying. To some people (like me) I like their chirpity music and I can drain it out if I need to. They are your parents. Keep trying. Say for your birthday, for X-mas, for BOTH… But they are your parents, sorry.

They can be a liitele noisey but if that happens all you have to do is cover their cage with a blanket or something. I know for a fact they dont smell at all!!!! They do take a bit of work like cleaning their cage and changing their food/water bowls. But i think they are great pets!!!!! :-)
HOPE THIS HELPS GOOD LUCK!!! ; – )

they are very noisy and messy, you need to clean the cage and surrounding area of poop, urine, and bits of food daily or it WILL smell!!! parakeets are cool at first but get boring very fast, don’t get one if you don’t want to have it for several years like if your going to collage soon or moving far and don’t get one if you travel a lot they like to have company and it is not a good idea to travel with a bird.

Parakeets are great pets. If you do get one though, buy it from a breeder that has already trained it. Parakeets can sometimes be difficult to train. Get one between the age of 6-12 weeks. They’re young enough to get used to humans at that age, but still old enough to eat on there own and do other things without their parents help.
Parakeets are NOT noisy. They are one of the quietest species of birds around the globe. Yes, they do talk, but not often. Even when they do, it’s not loud at all. They also sleep at night so they won’t keep your parents up from noise.
They’re not messy either. Some of them will throw seeds, but they’re usually fairly easy to keep clean. Some essential cage cleaning tools would be some cleaning spray, a cleaning towel you can use to wipe off the bars of the cage, and unless you want to have it flying around your room during cleaning i’d recommend a tiny cleaning cage to put it in while cleaning. Make sure everything is bird safe though. Parakeets have a bad respiratory system, and some fumes can hurt or even kill them.
They’re not smelly either. I can’t smell a thing unless I get within a foot of my parakeet’s cage. You must clean the cage and toys weekly though. If the cage hasn’t been regularly cleaned it can smell a lot worse.
Make sure your parakeet has tons of toys to play with and perches to rest on. They love playing with toys, and can get bored and even pluck their feathers without them.
I would also recommend getting it’s wings clipped for the first few months of having it. There’s a better chance they’ll fly away when they’re new to your home.
Also remember to clean out it’s food and water dish and give it fresh fruits and veggies daily. Some foods you can give
them is cucumber, apple, carrots, banana, lettuce, watercress, and corn. Make sure to give them small pieces of food though.
Take your parakeet out of it’s cage for daily exercise for 15 minutes a day. If it doesn’t want to come out, don’t try to pick it up. Let it come out on it’s own. You can try to get it to come out by putting some millet or it’s favorite food with a toy on the main door of the cage. Make a little landing out of the door to put it on. That should bribe it to come out.

I hope everything goes well. If you have any more questions contact me.

the truth is that the chirp very loud and they do it all the time sorry if this disappoints you

Parakeets are not stinky unless you don’t clean their cage often enough. They are actually great companions. They aren’t nescessarily messy, but somtimes they throw their seed hulls out of their cage. They aren’t noisy most of the time. They are quiet at night, but with some birds you just have to put a blanket over their cage at night. Their chatter is not annoying. They can actually be quite funny. I have some and their chatter is pleasent. Just tell you parents what I said. You also have to bribe them with responsibility. You have to know a lot about them in order to take care of them properly. Besides, some pet stores allow you to take back the pets if you don’t want them, so why don’t you give it a try and hope for the best.

You know as well as i do that your parents are half right, but it’s their house and you are just going to have a bad time if you get a pet bird. Unfortunately, so would the bird. In other words, your family dosent want birds what happens when and if theres an unexpected vetbill. What happens when you run out of supplies. I can only imagine how long a ride it would have been at your age with an unhappy parent driving to a petstore to buy supplies for an unwanted pet. My two cents.
