Grieving, should I get another parakeet; if not when?

We had 6 birds, now we have 5. I think the ones that were in the same cage when it happened may miss the one that passed. At first they were really quiet like they were sad. Now they squabbled this morning with each other over food (maybe more easily irritated).
I believe the parakeet did not pass away from an illness, none of the other birds show any alarming signs or behavior, except I just think they may be upset (or feeding off my and my daughter’s feelings of upsetness about missing the lost one). These parakeets are in a different cage now. I miss the one we lost so badly…
I also realize if I were to get another one, that there will be no replacement for the unique personality we lost. He had his own temperament and behavior, and I could go through 100s or thousands of birds and may not ever see one that will be the same. =(
Also if I go to a petstore to cheer myself up, I might end up out of grief and heightened emotional sensitivity, might end up buying 1 to several thinking I have fallen in love with them….

    Another parakeet question?

If parakeets don’t show they are sick until they are REALLY VERY sick..how am I to know when my guy is getting sick or becoming sick? Is there a way?
    …….
My keet is sick now, he’s on medicine, and the vet says birds don’t show symptoms until they are real sick. My guy just started this A.M. puffing up sneezing etc. He could have died if I didn’t act fast..I rushed him to the avian vet

My parakeet first layed 2 eggs, a day later it layed another one.?

Can parakeets lay more then 2 eggs. If so, is it normal if the thrid egg comes out a day later then the first two eggs. was my parakeet egg bound for a while?

Can you house a parakeet and another bird, like a cockateil togther?

Our parakeet is full grown but we’re not sure of his age since we found him flying outside. He loves his cage and never wants to come out, but he’s also so happy and talkative. However he seems scared of people and hasn’t bonded with either of us in 3 yrs. I can’t help but feel maybe he would like a companion.

Also we would like to adopt a bird from a shelter but worry it could give him an illness. Has anyone had a good/bad experience with adopting?

How do I retrain my first parakeet to sit on my finger after getting another parakeet?

I had a single parakeet for about 3 1/2 months. He was trained to sit on my finger and loved spending time with me. He would jump on his cage doors when he wanted to come out, which was quite often. I got another parakeet and now the first one won’t sit on my finger anymore. He constantly has to be next to the new parakeet and won’t let her out of his sight. I know this happens sometimes with two parakeets, but I miss having a trained parakeet. How can I retrain him?
