my parakeet’s feathers are ruffled ,he is shaking, also his tail feather is curled. Is he sick? What can I do?

I’m also without a job and can’t afford a vet. Is there something i can do over the counter?

What does spikey head feathers on a budgie indicate?

My mother’s parakeet is four years old, and appears for all intents and purposes healthy and happy. A huge cage, lots of sun, good appetite, energetic and peppy. Lately, however, she has developed one odd symptom–a few randomly placed spikey head feathers scattered among the normal feathers. At first, we thought this was perhaps a moulting stage, but now this has been going on for weeks and weeks and seems far beyond any other moulting signs. There really seems to be no other symptoms. I know she has a habit of rubbing her head really long and hard on this natural twig my mom put in her cage; she seems to love it. Could that be affecting those feathers? This really seems to be something with how the feathers are actually growing in. I remember reading in a bird book years ago what spikey head feathers represents, but I can’t remember and I can’t seem to find any info anywhere else on the subject. Advice appreciated!
Thanks so far to all. To the person who commented on the “plenty of sun” mention…no, not full sun. She has access to partially sunshine part of the day, and plenty of shade to relieve herself from it. It’s pretty much her choice, the way it is set up.

My parakeet (or budgie) looks tired (closes his eyes), has fluffed up feathers. He is sick?

I have had 4 parakeets of mine now die from this illness. How do I stop this horrible disease? I don’t want my other 4 to suffer the same fate. And don’t tell me to go to a vet. I know that, but I need some home remedies and medicine to buy at the store too. Help?
They also seem to lose A LOT of weight
Thanks a lot Colette, you are not help at all. I have specific reasons why I haven’t been paying close attention to my parakeets and just recently discovered this disease. Stop judging me, we’re over the internet. Why would you answer my question if you aren’t going to answer it?
    You don’t know me.
Oh and my mom and I have provided them with bird medicine. They still died. Once again you are no help and just aim to make me feel WORSE

My parakeet constantly puffs out her feathers and stuff. What do i do?

So what happened was, we switched brands of food and now 2 of my birds are sick. One is completely alert, but her feathers are fluffed out. Half of her cere is blue as opposed to brown. Nothing else is wrong, but could this be contagious? My other parakeet has diarrhea, its going away. They’re acting normal otherwise. Its been a week since they’ve shown symptoms. The vet is my last resort. What happened/What can I do before we take them them to a vet?
The problem is, her feathers are puffed out ALL the time except for when you play with her.

Also, vitamins and that food was kinda what spurred their ilness :/

Why is my parakeet pulling out his feathers? Is he sick, is he going to die?

My parakeet for the past week has been plucking his feathers out. Is this a sign of death? And he is not very old, he is maybe 7 months old. Answers would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you all for the speedy and very well detailed responses. Thank you.

My parakeet’s tail feathers have fallen out. Where they used to be looks bloody and red. What happened?

could a cat could have caused this? Or is it some type of illness? I only just noticed it today. will he be okay? he is old.
He is also acting strange; ruffling his feathers and being very quiet, sitting in one area for a long time, squinting his eyes..

My Parakeet is Puffed up, Losing feathers and hasnt churped in days. Are these signs that she will die?

My Parakeet is puffed up and she keeps burrowing her face into her feathers around her neck area. It looks she is biting feathers off because she has lost some around the top of her head. She has a mane of feathers around her face that she did not have before. She also has not churped in two days or so. Are these signs that she is going to go. If so about how long?

Due to stress my parakeet pulled most of its feathers. How long does it take for them to grow back?

I just got a new parakeet and it pulled its tail, chest, and back feathers out. He still has feather on his head and wings. He is still very healthy and playful. He stopped pulling once I bought him some parakeets to share the cage with. How long will Kojack (that what I named him because he is now bald) to grow his feathers back?
Thanks for the replies. I am sorry to say, but the bird broke its leg in the cage and later died.
