Can Parakeets and Lovebirds and cockatiels be kept together?

The age old question has a simply yet complicated answer.

Lovebirds, parakeets and cockatiels can be kept together and sometimes they can not be kept together. It all depends on the personality and attitude of the birds as each bird is different in personality from others just like we humans they have unique personalities. But usually the Lovebirds are the ones that decide whether they can be kept together as the parakeets and cockatiels get along with each other as both are very friendly and docile creatures, whereas the lovebirds are more territorial and have been known to attack other pet birds, big or small and have been known to kill budgies and cockatiels or just break their legs or rip open thier beaks.

After saying this you might be wondering if you can ever keep them together, actually my birds get along very well, you can see HD videos of Parakeets, Lovebirds and cockatiels living happily together at the Link i have provided at the bottom. There you can also see that its not always a rosy picture and they do fight when it comes to who gets to eat first.

Final verdict is try keeping them together under constant supervision untill you are confident that they will live together in harmony. Even then never leave them too long without supervision as you can never tell what they will be up to.

This is adry subject and just reading will not help, you need to see my Birds in HD videos I have posted at the link name- Lovebirds Parakeets Cockatiels Together and understand better how they react around each other.

    Hope it helped.

How to get Budgies or Parakeets to start eating vegetables?

I have never had any problem when it comes to feeding my parakeets vegetables or fruits. But this was due to certain circumstances and I would like to let you know these circumstances so that you can also follow them and make your Pet birds to eat vegetables and fruits.

First of all I never had just one bird at home, I have always had more than five, including lovebirds, parakeets and cockatiels.

Lovebirds and cockatiels naturally have a tendency to eat vegetables and fruits which the parakeets do not posess due to thier small beaks. My parakeets first started to eat vegetables and fruits when they saw my lovebirds and cockatiels eating them and just followed thier fellow companions, they seemed to love it actually! So you need to show them that the vegetables and fruits are tasty and good to eat, you can do this by eating the vegetables and fruits yourself even, I’m not kidding!

Another way is to mix the fruits and vegetables in thier food mix of seeds and hence they have to bite at it if they want to eat. Then you need to hope that they like it and start eating the vegetables and fruits regularly on thier own.

Another way is to tie small parts of the fruits and vegetables to the parakeets favourite toys and hence hope that they eat it while playing with thier toys. This works really well if your birds have favourite toys.

Another way is to buy fruit and vegetable vitamins drops and put them in water, this is a sure fire way to get the vitamins and nutrients into them but the water may get contaminated soon and needs constant replacement.

I have written several such methods in my blog, I have even added HD videos of my parakeets learning from my lovebirds to eat vegetables and fruits as well as my parakeets eating coriander and chillies and how to hand feed them vegetables. So please see the links below.

my parakeet’s feathers are ruffled ,he is shaking, also his tail feather is curled. Is he sick? What can I do?

I’m also without a job and can’t afford a vet. Is there something i can do over the counter?

I’m thinking of breeding my parakeets?

I have lost three parakeets over the past few months and it was very hard for me. Two of them escaped and they were females; their mates became very depressed and aggressive towards each other and me, which is something they’ve never done. The confused males went over to the other male’s mate and harassed her… but she got sick and died the next day. Now I only have one female and five males. I know you can never replace lost living creatures, but I was thinking of breeding them and hopefully get some females for the lonely males. The males have been wooing and trying to mate other males. One of my males has been mating on toys and has even tried to get his toy to mate him; he was squatting down for the toy above him.
I put a nest box in my aviary, but the female hasn’t shown any interest in the box. If I were to put her in a separate cage with her mate and the nest box, will it increase the chance of her wanting to raise babies? I’ve been thinking of buying parakeets, but I rather watch life begin and grow like last time (Violet, one of the escaped females had babies), but the things I fear is what if she gets egg binding? She needs lots of calcium right? Or if one of the babies were to die, I’ll cry a lot. Can you tell me some things that’ll help the breeding a success? Feed her lots of fruits, vegetables, and hard-boiled eggs for calcium? It was much easier with Violet because she trusted me with everything.
T1: The animal shelters around where I live only have cats and dogs, no birds.
I only want them to have mates so they can be happy and not be so lonely. Most of my single male parakeets look so sad just singing to themselves. I hate to see my birds sad.
I have a big aviary that could probably hold another 15+ parakeets and plus when I had the females in there, none of them laid eggs. I’ll NEVER sell my birds. Why the hell would I wanna sell someone I love?

Anyways, here is a photo of the two birds I’d like to breed: http://i30.tinypic .com/2yknjsx.jpg (remove the space)
What color would the babies be?

    Should i get 1 or 2 parakeets?

    1. Will 2 males be a lot louder than 1?
    2. If i get 1 male will it get lonely even if i make sure to spend time with it every day and give it toys?
    3. I’ve heard that females are quieter. Do they lay eggs and get egg bound though?
    4. If i get 2 will they hate me?
My mom and dad will be home at least half of the day probably all of it, and can talk to it. I can play with it when i get home from school. Should i get 1?

Can I use a Teflon Pan while having Cockatiels & Parakeets?

Hi. I just bought two cockatiels not too long ago (3 months old & they’re HUGE). I was warned that any pans or pots that are teflon will be fatal to them if over heated. Does this apply to parakeets as well? I had my parakeets for 3 years now & been using two teflon items from that time, a pot for pasta and a pan for mostly pancakes and bacon. I mostly use the pan when making breakfast & i usually spend 10-15 minutes cooking and the parakeets are about 20-25 feet away from the stove, plus i open the windows and turn on the fan for venting. These birds never showed any signs of illness and they’re half the size of the two cockatiels i just bought. I’ve placed the cockatiels in my living room, further away from the kitchen ( 30-35 feet at most ) but i have an open space from the kitchen to the living room in which they have no doors between them. Should I throw the teflon away or just use them less frequently? Also, I’ve heard that if the cockatiels feet suddenly gets warm at times, it signifies that they’re happy, which happened when I was playing with them. Is that true? Any advice will be gracefully appreciated. Thank You :)

Is the Yucca Palm tree poisonous to parakeets?

My parakeet just unexpectedly died and I have no idea. I have a Yucca palm tree right next to her cage and I was thinking that maybe she ate some and it was poisonous. Another posibility was that she got sick from the mineral stone and shell for the beak (which we bought at a pet store). It could have also been a disease, but if you know what it was please tell me! here are her symptoms: she was puffed up in a ball all day, she didn’t talk at all, she always flew to the ground and she didn’t fly to the high places she used to fly to, and she wouldn’t leave her cage, I had a very hard time getting her out. Please tell me because it hurts more not knowing than it would to know. Thank you.

    whats wrong with my parakeets?!?

both parakeets are at least a year or more, the one used to be scared of everythingm when i would reach towards her she would hurry and fly away or if she knew she coulkdnt get away she bite me as hard as she could, but now she dont fly away that much, she still does but i can touch her which i was never able to do before, she dont bite me either, she doesnt sit at the bottom of the cage and she still eats, whats wrong with her? the other is acting aggressive with me, my dad and another parakeet he used to be obbsessed with, its male cause we’ve had him a year now and his nose is purple/blue, so whats wrong with him? whats wrong with my parakeets? and if it’s an illness will my other parakeets and cockatiel get it?
p.s. both parakeets live at seperate ends of the house and are never near each other.

    Pinkish color on Parakeets Face?

I do not know if it is just something he got into, but, I left him with my neighbor for a couple weeks, and I just noticed it. Is the color pink around his beak and forehead and stuff, like a symptom of a dicease.Because he is acting normal, otherwise.
