Sick Parakeet ,or not, whats wrong?
Category: Parakeet Health
So i have had this parakeet for just over a year and a half now i got her a few weeks after she was born and hand raised. its female so it laid one egg about 5 months ago, ever since then there have been no feathers on her …. bottom (the but area) and it is very irritated looking …. for the past few weeks she has been having wastes stuck in her bottom and such, i tried washing it off but that didn’t work it and it was obviously causing her pain, is she sick? what should i do to help her? I am not gonna take her to the vet b/c the bill would be twice the cost of what she was and last time i took her the vet didn’t know what was wrong (when she was laying her egg)
thanks in advance for your advice
What’s wrong with my parrot?
Category: Parakeet Health
My parrot (actually a rosella parakeet) has a swollen chest/throat. It looks like its crop is very much swollen. The bird huddles quite a bit, but often acts normally despite the grossly swollen throat. It still has a good appetite. The other day I had to capture the bird, however, because it had hardened “poop” all around its vent. Can these two symptoms be related? What is wrong with my parrot?

both parakeets are at least a year or more, the one used to be scared of everythingm when i would reach towards her she would hurry and fly away or if she knew she coulkdnt get away she bite me as hard as she could, but now she dont fly away that much, she still does but i can touch her which i was never able to do before, she dont bite me either, she doesnt sit at the bottom of the cage and she still eats, whats wrong with her? the other is acting aggressive with me, my dad and another parakeet he used to be obbsessed with, its male cause we’ve had him a year now and his nose is purple/blue, so whats wrong with him? whats wrong with my parakeets? and if it’s an illness will my other parakeets and cockatiel get it?
p.s. both parakeets live at seperate ends of the house and are never near each other.

Is my parakeet sick? Shes PANTING! What’s wrong?

My parakeet has been panting all day. At first I thought she was hot, but she has not stopped all day even as its cooled down in the house. I know parakeets are prone to respiratory infections… if this is the case what can I do for her?
It’s too late to call an aviary veterinarian, but I did look up one, and will call in the morning if I can’t help her or she isn’t acting better tomorrow.

What’s a girl got to do to get a job working with animals?
Category: Parakeet Health
I recently quit my waitressing job I worked at for three years, well I just stopped showing up one day for plenty of reasons I won’t get into. My plan is this, since I can’t afford school right now, to get a job working with animals because that’s what I want to get a education in, just not sure what kind of degree. I’m starting to seriously think of becoming a Veterinary Technician though. I would like to work at a animal clinic, shelter, or doggy day care something of that nature either from answering phones to cleaning up dog poo I don’t really care, because I can work my way up. The problem is I would be making a hourly wage and that’s just not enough if I’m going to do that I prefer their is some kind of health benefits or something because I can’t afford health insurance. I recently broke my arm real bad and boy am I paying for not having health insurance.
For most places I applied I put can only work weekdays full time, and I’m going to waitress on the weekends for extra money. Is that being to strict? I just would like to have a set schedule that’s one of the things my old job always took advantage of me for, they acted like I was on call all the time. I worked 6 days a week and sometimes doubles, and I would be surprised if they didn’t call me on my day off or to work another double. So my plan is to work at a animal place with some kind of benefits on week days only preferably in the morning and work at a nice resteraunt on friday and saturday and have Sunday off. Then as soon as I get back on my feet I’ll start my night classes or online classes. Am I asking for to much, do you think I can find a place like that? Everywhere seems they want me to beable to work weekends too.
This is my resume I worked really hard on it, I don’t have real job experiences with animals is the thing though, but I decided I’m going to volunteer at a shelter or zoo or something as soon as possible so I can add it to my resume. Please look over it and tell me if it’s trash or not, I failed English so I’m really not good at this kind of stuff especially with no help.

whats wrong with my female parakeet? (PLZ read)?
Category: Parakeet Health
my 1 year old female parakeet screams alot, and doesnt like any cage mate i put with her, i put a male parakeet with her and she just ignored him and i even went out and bought a cockatiel with her and she liked him at first but started getting aggresive with him, to the point of screaming at him when he ate, i had to take him out because he wouldn’t eat, so now she’s alone which is a problem, last time she was alone she got way to obbsessed with her mirror, she would sit in front of it and act like she wanted it to mate with her, she would put her tail up in the air and lean forward and she would stop and peck and kick the mirror, and she was at the point where she wouldnt leave the mirror, which ment she wouldnt eat, so then i took the mirror out and she got too depressed where she still wouldnt eat, thats when i got the cockatiel, she’s alone now and she has a mirror which i dont want her to have because shes already showing signs that she likes it too much, so what could be wrong with her? some kind of illness or mental illness? and i know she could die from it, so what can i do to help her? she doesnt like me at all so socializeing with me wont work, and im not going to breed her so im not getting her a male parakeet and im not getting her a female parakeet cause i know they will fight. so what could be wrong with her?
and don’t tell me that they don’t need a nestbox to mate, my breeding pair have mated and had eggs without a nestbox.
*******i ment, that they need a nest box to mate*******
Can someone help me figure out what’s wrong with my bird?
Category: Parakeet Health
Im concerned with the health of my 7-year-old parakeet. Here are some odd signs i’ve noticed in his behavior:
aggressiveness (used to be very tame and friendly, now he bites my finger when i bring it close to him)
fatigue… looks lethargic to me, refuses to leave cage, last time he flew he could only circle the room twice… when he landed, he started panting and shaking… couldnt even climb back into the cage for about 10 minutes.
most of the time, he just sits in the cage with ruffled feathers.
he is still eating fine though, and there are no signs of a fracture, tumor, loss of feathers, or anything like that.
Do any of these symptoms sound familiar? Do you think he has some kind of a vitamin deficiency? or is it just old age?
What should i do? I hope someone knowledgeable can help me figure out the problem.
My parakeet is having trouble chirping and flies around without much control. What’s wrong?
Category: Parakeet Health
He’s only three years old and has had a slight respiratory infection before, though the symptoms were much different than now. He puffs out slightly and seems normal inside his cage, but once you take him out, he flies straight up into the ceiling and can’t control himself. He can barely chirp, and when he does, the sound seems muted. When he gets excited in the cage, he flaps his wings a little bit. He hasn’t lost any weight yet, so it doesn’t seem like cancer.
